Honoring Tim Powers

Creating a legacy that lasts for generations

First Tee board member Timothy (Tim) R. Powers passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2025.

Tim spent his childhood in the St. Louis suburb of Glendale, Missouri, across the street from Algonquin Golf Club. With influence from his maternal grandfather (Papa Pettey) and his Uncle Buz, Tim developed a passion and talent for golf that started at the age of five and carried him through significant success as a four-year varsity golfer at Saint Louis University High School and onto college at Loyola University New Orleans.

After graduation, Tim moved to San Diego, California, where he was a starter at Torrey Pines Golf club by day and a barback at a popular restaurant at night.

He returned to St. Louis to find a soulmate and start a family, marrying Kelly Ahner. He eventually settled into the family insurance business and developed a vast network of colleagues, clients and friends. His work helped Missouri General Insurance Agency (now MGI Risk Advisers) become one of the largest locally owned and managed independent insurance agencies in the St. Louis Metropolitan area.

In addition to the First Tee board, he served on the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Board of Governors and Ronald McDonald House Charities.

In his spare time, Tim enjoyed coaching youth basketball and baseball, supporting his children’s many sports activities, rooting for the Cardinals, Blues and City SC, slalom waterskiing and spending time with family and friends.
